I have been using Windows XP from past 6 years. In these 6 years, I can’t remember how many times I had formatted my HDD  due to viruses.

So, I decided to switch to Linux, which is also better for PHP development. I ordered free Ubuntu disc from Canionical. Installed Ubuntu . But I was unable to  configure it properly. And I ended up installing Windows XP again. Later, I found Kubuntu – an official derivative of Ubuntu which is used by developers ( point out if I am wrong). Installed it successfully, but was unable to configure it fully and gave up the thought.

And, four days ago, the thought of switching to Linux again came into mind when I had problem with EpiTwitter class of Jaisen Mathai because I was on Windows.

So, I decided to switch over to Linux, but not with Ubuntu or Kubuntu as I had read this and some other bloggers having same opinion.Linux has many distros (flavours, as they are known). And I decided to try out Fedora 12 .

I have all the things I need to develop PHP applications. I have installed -

FileZilla – a FTP client

Pidgin – a messenger

Amarok – music player

NetBeans – (PHP) IDE

TweetDeck for tweeting :-)

and ofcourse (L)AMP.

Until now, I haven’t experinced any problems. And I am happy with my desktop powered by Fedora.

Here’s a screenshot -

P.S : If you are confused about what distro to choose, you can try out Fedora( that’s only a free advice although :P ).
